Diversity is key to global success: Ernst & Young

TORONTO, Feb. 28 /CNW/ - Ernst & Young leads corporate Canada as one of
the country's "Best Employers for New Canadians for 2008." The award
acknowledges employers who create inclusive and welcoming work environments
where new Canadians can achieve their full potential.
The goal of Ernst & Young's PeopleFirst culture is to foster an inclusive
environment where all team members are recognized for the unique skills and
perspectives they bring to work each day. About one quarter of Ernst & Young's
workforce is made up of immigrants, who have brought their talents and
knowledge to our firm. Over the last three years, 30% of the firm's
experienced hires have come from outside Canada.
"At Ernst & Young, we believe it is not enough just to have a diverse
workforce," says Karen Wensley, Ernst & Young's human resources leader. "The
key to success is for all of our people to feel fully included, and able to
contribute and develop. That, in turn, makes us more competitive in the
evolving and global world of business."
The firm provides a variety of programs and initiatives to help new
Canadians integrate into the wider workforce, and the Ernst & Young family,
including:

    - Succeeding in Canada workshops

    - Cross-cultural coaching

    - Formal mentoring partnerships between current staff and new Canadians
        who join the firm

    - An ethnic diversity task force that focuses on diversity initiatives.

The "Best Employers for New Canadians for 2008" list is compiled by the
Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) and the editors of
Canada's Top 100 Employers. This new ranking is part of a recent list of
accolades for Ernst & Young in Canada. The firm has also received:

    - Best Workplaces in Canada 2007

    - Calgary's Best Places to Work For 2008

    - GTA's Top 50 Employers 2008

Ernst & Young also supports diversity initiatives in the wider community.
The firm sponsors events such as the New Pioneers Awards (NPA) for new
Canadians, created by the Skills for Change organization. Tonight, Ernst &
Young partner Leon Chin will present at the annual NPA gala.
