Diane Francis to answer "Who Owns Canada Now?" at the 5th Annual CIRI Alberta Awards Gala

CALGARY, Aug. 20 /CNW/ - In the context of changing regulatory, economic
and corporate ownership environments, the Alberta chapter of the Canadian
Investor Relations Institute (CIRI) will celebrate their members'
accomplishments at the Fifth Annual CIRI Alberta Awards Gala on September 25,
2008. Keynote speaker Diane Francis will engage the Alberta business community
in a discussion on "who owns Canada now?"
"I don't consider myself a journalist who covers business," says Diane
Francis, "but rather a business person who delivers insight through
journalism." As an Editor-at-Large at the National Post, a bestselling author,
and a broadcaster, Francis will offer her unique insight into the
opportunities and challenges faced by investor relations professionals and the
companies they represent. With the rise of private equity, foreign mergers and
acquisitions, changing regulations and a booming commodities sector, Diane
Francis will address how companies are affected by these shifting market
conditions.

CIRI is a professional association with members from an assortment of
industries and backgrounds, that all share a desire to enhance the recognition
of the Investor Relations (IR) role as critical to investing and business
communities. This year's CIRI Alberta Awards Gala will feature a silent
auction in support of Millican-Ogden Community Association (MOCA) Family
Resource Centre. This after-school program offers a safe refuge for 30-50
at-risk youth each day, in one of Calgary's highest needs communities.
