MONTREAL, Jan. 23 /CNW Telbec/ - Dessau, one of Canada's largest
consulting engineering firms, has just received a major international prize
granted by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning
Engineers (ASHRAE) in recognition of the excellence shown in the design of
heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in hospital environments.
The distribution of 2008 awards took place in New York this past weekend.
During this event, Dessau was awarded ASHRAE's 2008 Technology Award in
the Health Care Facilities - Existing Building for the rehabilitation project
it carried out at the Honoré-Mercier Hospital in Saint-Hyacinthe.
"This prestigious recognition is a fitting tribute to our teams' efforts.
They work tirelessly to build innovative, high-performance mechanical and
electrical systems, with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainable
development. Our experts have every reason to be proud," said Dessau's Chief
Executive Officer, Jean-Pierre Sauriol.
The panel of judges for this contest was composed of international
experts who rated the projects on a wide range of criteria, including
innovative aspects of electromechanical systems, energy efficiency, air
quality, ease of operation and maintenance, economic impacts and contribution
to profitability, and environmental impacts.
ASHRAE is an international nonprofit technical organization whose
50,000 members influence the direction of heating, ventilation, refrigeration,
air conditioning and related technologies, as well as other related
technologies including the energy efficiency of buildings. ASHRAE's technical
committees establish standards widely used by building designers around the
world. Moreover, many provinces and states's building codes are based on those
standards. Almost all building regulations refer to those standards.
Founded in 1957, Dessau is the second largest engineering firm in Quebec,
the fifth largest in Canada and one of the 100 largest in the world. The firm
employs 3,000 employees and has annual sales of $350 million. DESSAU has been
recognized as one of "Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies."
