Deputy Minister appointment



    TORONTO, March 8 /CNW/ - Premier Dalton McGuinty announced the following
Deputy Minister appointment effective April 2, 2007:
    Giles Gherson as Deputy Minister and Associate Secretary of the Cabinet,
Communications, in Cabinet Office. Mr. Gherson was formerly the
Editor-in-Chief of the Toronto Star and Editor of the Globe and Mail's Report
on Business.
    In addition to his impressive background in leadership positions with the
Edmonton Journal, Southam News Services, the Financial Times of Canada and the
Financial Post, he was Principal Secretary for Social Security Reform in the
federal government's Department of Human Resources Development. He is a
frequent speaker and panelist on public affairs issues and the media, a
director of the Public Policy Forum, and a member of the advisory boards of
the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations at Queen's University and
Guelph-Humber University.
    Mr. Gherson has a BA Honours from Queen's University in Kingston,
Ontario.
