Dell celebrates first anniversary in Ottawa

Gears Up for an Additional 1,000 Hires with New Recruitment Ad

OTTAWA, March 29 /CNW/ - Dell celebrated its first anniversary of
operations here today by thanking its employees for a banner year and
unveiling a new recruitment ad to help drive Dell's planned growth in the
capital city.
Meanwhile, Ottawa mayor Larry O'Brien proclaimed March 29 "Dell Day" in
Ottawa.
Dell's Ottawa Customer Contact Centre at 2500 Solandt Drive opened on
Feb. 27, 2006, to provide customers in the United States and Canada the
technical and customer support they value at industry-leading support levels.
Since then, the number of Dell employees in Ottawa has grown from 50 to
more than 1,500. Dell's workforce is expected to expand again this year by
about 1,000 as it opens its second facility in the Kanata Research Park.
"Dell's success here in Ottawa has been nothing short of phenomenal,"
said Site Leader Michael Jaillet. "By early 2008, Dell expects to be the
third-largest high-tech employer in the city. Our company's exceptional
performance in Ottawa is a testament to the region's highly skilled and
talented workforce. We wanted to mark our first anniversary by paying tribute
to our employees and to others in the community who have contributed to our
outstanding level of accomplishments."
Jeffrey Dale, president and CEO of OCRI, the Ottawa economic development
agency that played a key role in attracting Dell, congratulated the company
for its commitment to the community and its leadership in helping to develop
the region's labour force.
"Since opening operations here in Ottawa, Dell has demonstrated a
remarkable level of involvement in the community," said Dale. "Michael Dell
has been here in person to speak to local students. The company has donated
equipment to our schools. It is teaming with local school boards to develop
mentoring and work-placement programs. The list goes on."
Dale added that Dell has developed a well-deserved reputation for its
commitment to education and training.
"Here in Ottawa, we've seen Dell join with Algonquin College to help
ensure local high-tech training programs are responsive to the changing needs
of industry," said Dale. "So, not only is Dell providing significant
employment opportunities, it's helping to ensure the continued high quality of
the Ottawa workforce."
