Decorating Icon Debbie Travis and Honourable Monte Kwinter Join Canadian Gift And Tableware Association As The Nation's Largest Trade Show Grows To More Than 1.3 Million Square Feet

    TORONTO, Aug. 8 /CNW/ - The nation's largest trade show is about to get a
lot bigger. The Canadian Gift and Tableware Association (CGTA) is celebrating
the grand opening of a new 300,000 sq. ft. facility and the significantly
expanded CGTA Gift Show. The heart of the gift and tableware industry in
Canada, the CGTA Gift Show has been launching iconic products to the Canadian
marketplace since 1978, from the popular culture phenomena TY Beanie Babies,
to Umbra's Garbino trash can, which now sits in a permanent collection in the
MOMA.
    Celebrity decorator Debbie Travis will join Honourable Monte Kwinter,
Chair of the Ontario Investment and Trade Advisory Council and
Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development and Trade to
officially open the expanded CGTA Gift Show at the brand new Congress Centre
North Building on Sunday August 10th at 10:30 am. Ms. Travis will give an
exciting peek ahead to upcoming trends in home décor, while Hon. Kwinter
speaks to the significant impact the expanded show will have on business in
Ontario. Randy Cook, CGTA Chairman of the Board will also be on hand for the
ceremony reflecting on the contributions of the $10-billion Canadian giftware
industry since the show began 30 years ago, providing an intimate look at the
past, present and future of Canadian retail.

    The CGTA Gift Show takes place twice a year at the Toronto Congress
Centre and the International Centre. The newly constructed Congress Centre
North Building, which borders Mississauga and Toronto, adds 300,000 sq. ft to
the show for a total of more than 1.3 million square feet of exhibit space.
