    - New initiative will support local and national violence prevention
    charities -

TORONTO, May 20 /CNW/ - This Saturday, May 23, 2009, Royal LePage offices
across Canada will be hosting the National Garage Sale for Shelter in support
of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, a program dedicated to ending violence
against women and children in communities in Canada.
"More than 80 communities from coast to coast will do their part to end
domestic violence by providing financial support to local shelters," says
Sandra Diaz, Executive Director, Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. "With 100
per cent of all proceeds going to charity, the National Garage Sale for
Shelter is truly making a difference in our communities today."
The National Garage Sale for Shelter raises funds in support of local
shelters and helps restore hope to more than 30,000 women and children across
Canada. Since 1999, the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation has donated more than
$9 million to charities and has become Canada's largest public foundation
dedicated exclusively to funding women's shelters and violence prevention
programs.
Together, local residents and Royal LePage realtors and brokers will be
donating household items to raise funds and awareness to end family violence.
"The funds raised from each garage sale will benefit the specific community
hosting it," says Kathryn Babcock, Vice President Development, Canadian
Women's Foundation. "This not only provides our organization with much-needed
financial support, but it raises awareness of women struggling with domestic
abuse issues."
Royal LePage is the only Canadian real estate company with its own
charity, empowering realtors and brokers to give back to the communities which
they serve.
"We are proud of our network and we will continue to make charitable
contributions in neighbourhoods where we live and work. At Royal LePage we
believe a home should be a place of safety, security and comfort and the
Shelter Foundation provides a safe haven and new beginnings for Canadian women
and children," says, Ms. Diaz.
