Seven students to be awarded scholarships worth $2,000 each
TORONTO, June 18 /CNW/ - RBC is reminding eligible applicants that the
July 5th deadline for entries for its first Scholarship Program for New
Canadians is little more than two weeks away.
"With Canada Day around the corner, this is a time to celebrate our
country's great achievements, including the accomplishments of newcomers,"
said Mark Whitmell, director, Cultural Markets. "We know many new immigrant
families come here in search of a better future for themselves and their
children. This scholarship program allows us to recognize and lend support to
those individuals who intend to realize their dream through advanced
Seven scholarships, each worth $2,000, will be awarded to individuals who
have graduated high school or CEGEP and are planning to pursue full-time
studies at an accredited Canadian college or university this fall. The winners
will also be invited to an all-expenses paid awards dinner in Toronto.
To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must have been born
outside of Canada, and be either permanent residents or citizens of Canada.
Applicants must have also achieved at least a 70 per cent average in their
previous year of study. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic
achievement and responses to three, 250-word essay questions on how
immigration has helped to shape the country we live in today.

RBC's Scholarship Awards Program offers a diverse range of scholarship
awards to help address the critical need for student funding across Canada. In
2006, RBC awarded over 320 scholarships, totalling more than $600,000.
Scholarships are available for students studying in high school, pursuing
undergraduate studies at college or university, and those entering
professional programs in medicine or dentistry. Specialized scholarships are
also available to New Canadians, Junior A hockey players, and Aboriginal
