LÉVIS, QC, Nov. 14th, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Chantier Davie is welcoming all provincial and federal political parties to visit Canada's largest shipbuilder following the airing of the TV program Découverte on the transformation of the first Resolve-Class Naval Support Ship, the largest naval ship ever delivered by a Canadian shipyard.
Canada's Navy, Coast Guard and ferry fleets are rusting out faster than they can be replaced and capacity needs to be added to current government programs in order to reduce costs and expedite renewal of the entire federal fleet. The National Shipbuilding Strategy only covers a limited number and type of ships and tens of large ships are required outside of the current agreements. Quebec represents 50% of Canada's shipbuilding capacity and 23% of Canada's tax base but it is receiving less than 1% of federal spending on shipbuilding. We and our many Stakeholders across Canada believe that it is now time to make the National Shipbuilding Strategy truly national.
