FYIMusic To Give New Voice To Canada's Music Industry
TORONTO, March 6 /CNW/ - Veteran music industry journalist David Farrell
is returning to the music industry with FYIMusic, a digital independent news
source that will focus on the Canadian music industry. FYIMusic will offer
detailed reporting on the companies and individuals involved in the creation,
marketing, promotion, and export of Canadian music.
Farrell, previously co-publisher of The Record, has been reporting on
Canada's musicians and music industry for over 30 years. This position,
overseeing the editorial content of FYIMusic, will mark Farrell's return to
covering the industry after a six-year hiatus.
Founding partners in FYIMusic include YANGAROO Inc., a Toronto-based
digital media distribution firm, and Gary Slaight, the former president and
CEO of Standard Radio Inc. and a longtime champion of Canadian music.
"The rate of change and challenges facing the business at home and abroad
make this an exciting time to be covering the industry again," said
David Farrell, Editorial Director, FYIMusic. "The Internet and the
digitization of music today have shattered the old business model, again
creating opportunity. FYI Music will be at the forefront of chronicling these
developments and trumpeting Canada's musical messages at home and abroad."
"FYI Music will fill a void in coverage of the Canadian music industry,"
said John Heaven, President and CEO of YANGAROO, Inc. "It will be a forum for
the sharing of news and views with the whole industry here."
