TORONTO, March 26 /CNW/ - Cymat announces that it had received acceptance
from Georg Fischer for its aluminum foam filled OEM prototype part using its
proprietary aluminum foam technology. This part from a German OEM was
announced September 18, 2007 by Cymat.
Georg Fischer Automotive is a leading global automotive parts supplier
and manufacturing partner for Cymat.
This is the first time that a complex hollow aluminum part has been
filled with aluminum foam and is a major accomplishment for the company.
The part was filled at Cymat's facility in Toronto and was successfully
completed as a result of a team effort by Georg Fischer and Cymat and is
regarded as a very important achievement for our companies and validation of
our partnership.
One of the challenges was to manage the similar melting points of both
materials in such a way as to not deform or melt the target part while at the
same time filling complex sections. The technical skills that were brought to
bear by Georg Fischer and Cymat were significant and are the result of
know-how built on protected intellectual property.
"Cymat is very satisfied with the result on many fronts including foam
density and filling completeness, the high rate of process and the dramatic
reduction in NVH (noise vibration and harshness) that was achieved" said Chris
Skillen. "NVH is a very important element in automotive design as it has a
large impact on passenger comfort", he continued.
"Georg Fischer has experienced a major increase in automaker demands for
lighter components while at the same time requiring reduced NVH associated
with lighter parts" said Georg Fischer's Dr. Leopold Kniewallner, Head of
Research and Development in Schaffhausen. "This recent result with the
prototype component is important confirmation that Cymat aluminum foam has an
important role to play in the future of light weighting of automobiles", he
continued.

    About Cymat:

Cymat develops innovative materials for industry. The company has
worldwide rights, through patents and licenses, for producing Stabilized
Aluminum Foam. The ultra-light metallic foam is manufactured by bubbling gas
through molten alloyed aluminum containing a dispersion of fine ceramic
particles and can be produced as either Near-net Shapes or Flat Panels. The
result is a revolutionary material with a wide array of features including
very low density, mechanical energy absorption, thermal and acoustic
insulation, is recyclable, time and temperature insensitive and has a
relatively low cost of production. Cymat is collaborating with a number of
partners spanning the automotive, architectural and blast mitigation
industries. For further information, visit the Web site www.cymat.com.
