- CTV Takes 47 Medals as MTV Leads Specialty Networks with 18 -
NEW YORK, June 15 /CNW/ - CTV has been recognized once again as one of
the world's leading broadcasters. Last night in New York, CTV and its family
of channels claimed a record 55 medals at the 2007 PROMAX Awards, in addition
to 18 medals presented at the BDA Awards on Wednesday. With 26 more awards
than 2006, it's more wins than any other Canadian broadcaster and positions
CTV as one of the most creative broadcast companies in the world.
The medals were awarded to Jon Arklay, CTV's Vice President of Creative
Services and Brand, along with Alanna Barkley-Smith, CTV's Director of On-Air
Promotion, on behalf of a multitude of networks owned by CTV Inc. Unlike most
broadcasters, CTV conceives designs and delivers most of its on-air and
off-air promotional campaigns in-house.
Under MTV Creative Director Peter Moller, MTV firmly established itself
at the 2007 PROMAX and BDA Awards with an impressive 18 wins for creative
executed during its first year on the air, including four awards in the
"World" category. Similarly, CTV Toronto under the direction of Sandy Fraser
took home more awards in the "World" event than any other local station on the
planet, including 2 World Gold, 5 World Silver and 1 World Bronze. CTV Toronto
claimed 24 awards overall, with additional medals going to CTV British
Columbia (12), CTV Edmonton (1) and CTV Montreal (3).
In all, 73 awards were handed out for campaigns on CTV, Discovery
Channel, MTV OLN, RDS, travel + escape and TSN. The CTV Network led the pack
earning 47 awards including 20 Gold Medals - almost twice as many as last
"CTV is the Number One network in Canada for many reasons, and a major
one is our industry-leading promotions team," said Rick Lewchuk, CTV's Senior
Vice President of Program Planning and Promotion. "They not only set the
standard for broadcast promotion in this country but are increasingly becoming
an example around the world."
