TORONTO, June 19 /CNW/ - CTV acknowledged and thanked the efforts of the
Heritage Committee on its study, The Evolution of the Television Industry in
Canada and its Impact on Local Communities. It is important to note that the
committee report does not reject or endorse "fee for carriage".
While we find many of the recommendations constructive, we are deeply
disappointed that the Conservative government members of the committee choose
to protect the record profits of cable companies over the interests of
consumers and their local television stations.
Additionally, we encourage the government to immediately adopt the
recommendation on the elimination of Part II fees which could help mitigate
the current crisis in conventional television.
We look forward to the public proceeding in the fall at the CRTC, to
establish a fair market value for the redistribution of our local programming.
