CTS Refutes Comments made by Charles McVety and Word TV

BURLINGTON, ON, Jan. 31 /CNW/ - CTS (Crossroads Television System) regrets that Word TV will no longer be broadcast due to its lack of compliance with the CTS Code of Ethics to which Word TV agreed under contract.

Last week, its producer and host, Dr. Charles McVety erroneously communicated that CTS was being pressured to censor Word TV; these comments are inaccurate and misleading.  The fact is that Word TV failed to keep its agreement to comply with the CTS Code of Ethics and indicated a refusal to comply in the future.  Unfortunately, numerous attempts by CTS to work with Dr. McVety were unsuccessful.

Since 1998, CTS has worked with well over one hundred ministries who have utilized CTS' broadcast platform to effectively communicate messages of faith and values.  Given the pervasive nature of media, CTS plays a pivotal role in offering programming that can be trusted to cover important and timely topics, even contentious ones, in a fair and balanced framework.

CTS is a Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) licensed religious broadcaster.   CTS has a responsibility to set high standards for programming and has created a Code of Ethics that in some cases, demands higher standards than those established by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters and other media standards organizations.

The CTS Code of Ethics includes fundamental principles and general policies that ensure integrity and high quality programming.  The full Code can be found at www.ctstv.com.

As such, the CTS Code includes important parameters for integrity and fairness, including but not limited to:
