TORONTO, June 8 /CNW/ - CSA International, a leading testing and
certification organization, in cooperation with the Canadian Council of
Independent Laboratories (CCIL), is today officially announcing the sale of
the CSA International Qualification Program for Concrete Laboratories to CCIL.
The deal includes the Concrete Technician Personnel Certification Program that
is associated with the Qualification Program but does not include CSA
International's Pre-Cast Concrete Plant Qualification Program.
"The decision to sell this program was made after an extensive review of
our services in this area," says Randall W. Luecke, President, CSA
International. "This review revealed the CSA International Qualification
Program for Concrete Laboratories is an excellent program but that it is not a
strategic fit with the long-term business objectives of CSA International. We
have worked closely with CCIL on a number of programs throughout the years and
anticipate a smooth transition of the concrete qualification program."
CCIL operates similar certification programs for asphalt and aggregate
testing laboratories and laboratory technicians. The CCIL Laboratory
Certification Programs have developed over the past twenty five years and
continue to evolve to respond to new responsibilities, challenges,
technologies, and testing procedures in the quality control/quality assurance
testing industry. The Qualification Program for Concrete Laboratories will
serve to further strengthen the CCIL portfolio.
"The acquisition of CSA International's Qualification Program for
Concrete Laboratories is an excellent fit to our other laboratory
certification programs in asphalt and aggregates," says David Hope, President
of CCIL. "For many years, our members and prospective members were asking us
to enter this field. We always had a high regard for the CSA International
program, and felt the best way to deal with this was to indicate our interest
to CSA International to acquire their program if and when CSA International
decided to withdraw from it. This deal allows an orderly transfer and the
continuation of a quality certification program staffed by highly trained CCIL
materials testing engineers, scientists and inspectors."
The deal calls for a relatively short transition phase where CSA
International will provide training and knowledge transfer. CSA
International's employees working in the program will remain with CSA
International and will be repositioned within the organization.
