Courtenay civic workers ratify agreement



    COURTENAY, BC, June 4 /CNW/ - Members of CUPE 556, Courtenay municipal
workers, voted last night to accept the tentative agreement they reached on
May 29.
    CUPE 556 vice president Rod Armstrong, says, "We were able to reach an
agreement with the help of mediator Mark Brown."
    "We're happy that an agreement was reached and that services to our
community will not be interrupted," adds Armstrong.
    The contract will be effect until December 2010. Details are not being
released, pending ratification by Courtenay council. It is expected that
Council will ratify the agreement when they meet on June 9.
    CUPE 556 represents 121 inside and outside workers in Courtenay who keep
the city running - from water treatment to parks and recreation services.
