Court Bulletin - Construction company owner fined $7,500 after worker injured

RENFREW, ON, Feb. 4 /CNW/ - Lloyd Eady, carrying on business as Lloyd
Eady Construction was fined $7,500 on January 30, 2009, for a health and
safety violation after a worker was injured.
On December 11, 2007, Mr. Eady had been contracted to conduct roof
maintenance on several two-storey housing units on Oak Crescent in Renfrew. A
worker he employed was re-shingling a roof, without fall protection, and fell
about six meters to the ground below.
Mr. Eady pleaded guilty to failing, as an employer, to ensure the worker
was adequately protected from falling, as required by safety regulations for
construction projects under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
The fine was imposed by Justice of the Peace Clayton A. McKechnie in the
Ontario Court of Justice, Renfrew. In addition to the fine, the court imposed
a 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge on the total, as required by the
Provincial Offences Act. The surcharge is credited to a special provincial
government fund to assist victims of crime.
