TORONTO, June 27 /CNW/ - The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is
pleased to announce the appointment of Constance Sugiyama as Chair of its
Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2008. Ms. Sugiyama succeeds Bruce
Richmond, who has served as Chair since July 2005.
"Connie has been an integral member of the board for the last six years
and we are delighted to welcome her as its Chair. Her diverse knowledge and
expertise continues the hospital's history of strong leadership, since the
time of the hospital's founder, Elizabeth McMaster," says Mary Jo Haddad,
President and CEO, SickKids. "We would also like to thank Bruce Richmond,
whose contributions as Chair have helped the hospital in creating its vision
of healthier children, a better world."
Ms. Sugiyama is a senior partner in the Toronto office of Gowling Lafleur
Henderson LLP, one of Canada's largest full-service law firms. She has been on
the SickKids Board of Trustees since 2002 and has served on its Finance and
Audit and Nominating and Governance Committees. She was elected Vice Chair and
Chair Designate of the Board in 2007.
Ms. Sugiyama is acknowledged as one of Canada's leading corporate lawyers
and is an experienced director, having served on many public and private
sector boards and advisory committees. She is currently a board member of the
Toronto International Film Festival Group, Canada Health Infoway and LuminaTO,
the Toronto Festival for Arts and Creativity. She also serves as a senior
advisor to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre.
