MONTREAL, June 13 /CNW Telbec/ - Last night, the Conseil du patronat du
Québec (CPQ) paid tribute to André Chagnon, President and Chairman of the
Fondation Lucie et André Chagnon and Past Founding President and Chief
Executive Officer of Groupe Vidéotron, with its Prix de carrière 2008, an
award given for outstanding contributions to Quebec society.
"In addition to having built one of Canada's largest cable distribution
companies, Mr. Chagnon has greatly contributed to the prevention of poverty
and disease among children and their families. Today we recognize
Mr. Chagnon's exceptional qualities as a businessman and philanthropist by
presenting him with this award," stated CPQ chair John LeBoutillier.
This year marks the 26th edition of the award, presented at the CPQ's
annual general meeting. Over the years, it has been presented to such people
as Jean Coutu, Paul Desmarais Sr., Stephen Jarislowsky, Bernard Lemaire and

Two new members have been named to the prestigious Club des entrepreneurs
du CPQ: Glenn J. Chamandy, Co-Founder, President and CEO of Gildan Activewear
Inc., and Kazimir Olechnowicz, Founder, President and CEO of CIMA +.
Gildan Activewear Inc. is a vertically integrated manufacturer, the main
supplier for the wholesale imprinted sportswear market in the United States
and Canada and a major supplier of this market in Europe. The company is also
increasingly present in the retail sales market.
For its part, CIMA + ranks among the largest engineering consultant firms
in Quebec and in North America.
Established in 1986, the raison d'être of the Club des entrepreneurs du
CPQ is to publicly recognize the exceptional contribution of business people
to the economic development of Quebec. To date, 63 personalities from the
business milieu have been honoured by the CPQ in this manner.
The Conseil du patronat du Québec includes many of the province's largest
companies as well as the vast majority of sector-based employers'
associations, making it the sole employers' confederation in the province.
