Community Ready to Walk-n-Roll for Variety - the Children's Charity

    TORONTO, Sept. 20 /CNW/ - On Sunday, September 23, Variety - the
Children's Charity hosts its first-ever 5K "Walk-n-Roll" charity walk in
support of Variety Village. This is a family-oriented, community fundraising
event that's fun for everyone.
Variety's goal is to raise $250,000 to support Variety Village's
integrated fitness programs that make a profound difference in the spirit and
lives of children and youth with disabilities across Ontario. Rain or shine,
participants will walk or wheel their way along the route through local
neighbourhood streets in support of this worthy cause.
"This is Variety's first Walk-n-Roll and we're very excited to see the
support we've had from the community," said Lynne Wallace, Variety's president
and CEO. "We're looking forward to continuing Walk-n-Roll as an annual event
to raise funds for essential programs that benefit thousands of children with
special needs."
After the walk, families, friends and neighbours gather at the Village
for a tasty BBQ lunch. Soccer fans have an exciting opportunity to meet and
greet two Toronto FC players and get autographs too. Great entertainment
includes: a steel drum band, the Parker Band and Elvis impersonator, Shane
Jeffery. Toronto Police Service's, Blinky, the talking car will share safety
tips and Toronto Raptor Girls will host a raffle.
Walkers, baby strollers, wheelchairs and power wheelchairs are all
permitted - and encouraged. However, for safety's sake, in-line skates,
skateboards and bicycles are not permitted on the walk.
