Colin Andersen to head Ontario Power Authority

TORONTO, July 2 /CNW/ - John M. Beck, Chair of the Ontario Power
Authority (OPA), is pleased to announce that Colin Andersen has been appointed
Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Power Authority, effective
September 15, 2008.
Mr. Andersen joins the OPA after a distinguished career of more than
20 years in the Ontario Public Service, serving in a variety of senior
financial and policy positions. Currently, he is the Deputy Minister of
Finance, Secretary of Treasury Board, Deputy Minister of Revenue, Chair of the
Ontario Electricity Financial Corporation and Chair of the Ontario Financing
Authority. In 2003, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Policy, Cabinet
Office. Prior to that role, he served in several capacities in the Ministry of
Health and Long Term Care, including Acting Deputy Minister, Associate Deputy
Minister and Assistant Deputy Minister.
In these and other senior management positions he has had in the Ontario
Public Service, Mr. Andersen has provided the government with advice and
assistance on all aspects of fiscal and financial policy and planning,
expenditure management and overall stewardship of the financial resources of
the province. This has included playing a lead role in strategic asset
management initiatives, extensive intergovernmental negotiations at the
federal and municipal level and large-scale infrastructure and procurement
projects.
He has a Master's Degree in Economics from the University of Toronto and
an Honours Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Calgary.
"Mr. Andersen's impressive background demonstrates strong, effective
leadership, extensive experience working with diverse stakeholders and with
both public and private interests, and prudent fiscal and fiduciary
management," says John Beck. "His role as Chair of the Ontario Electricity
Financial Corporation has also given him significant insight into the
challenges of funding major electricity projects in Ontario."
Mr. Andersen succeeds Dr. Jan Carr, founding Chief Executive Officer, who
is leaving after three years of leading the OPA's initiatives to improve the
long-term reliability of Ontario's electricity supply.

The OPA is responsible for ensuring a reliable, sustainable supply of
electricity for Ontario. Its four key areas of focus are: planning the power
system for the long term, leading and coordinating conservation initiatives
across the province, ensuring development of needed generation resources and
supporting the continued commercial evolution of the electricity sector.
