Cognos Appoints Phillip Beniac President, Cognos Asia-Pacific



    - 17-year SAS sales executive to lead Cognos Asia-Pac solutions and sales

    OTTAWA & BURLINGTON, MASS., September 6 /CNW/ - Cognos (NASDAQ:   COGN)
(TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and performance
management solutions, today appointed Phillip Beniac president of Cognos'
Asia-Pacific region.

    Mr. Beniac will report to Cognos Chief Operating Officer, Les Rechan, and
will be responsible for spearheading Asia-Pacific sales and solutions
initiatives to ensure customer success and drive continued performance
management leadership in the market. He will replace outgoing President Jack
Thomas, who is retiring after 23 years of service with Cognos.

sales and operations, combined with stellar experience growing business in

go-to-market strategy and execution in Asia-Pacific as we continue to deliver

    Mr. Beniac joins Cognos from SAS Institute where he held the position of
Vice-President, Asia-Pacific. In this role, Mr. Beniac led Asia-Pacific sales,
marketing, professional services and administrative personnel across 15
countries. He joined SAS' sales organization in 1990 and held a variety of
senior, global sales and business development positions during his tenure.
