CN launches new Alberta safety awards program

    CALGARY, June 9 /CNW/ - CN (TSX:CNR)(NYSE: CNI) today announced a new
$10,000 award program honouring Alberta community groups and youth
organizations for excellence in promoting safety.
The new CN Safer Alberta Awards will recognize outstanding initiatives in
the 10 communities already designated as safe communities through Safe
Communities Canada. CN will award the first winners in 2008.
There are two awards: the CN Safer Alberta Youth Award, to be presented
to a youth organization whose achievements in promoting safety have brought
recognition toward making their community a safer place; and the CN Safer
Alberta Community Award, to be presented to a non-government, not-for-profit
organization that has made a significant contribution to safety in their
community.
The new program is patterned after the successful CN-sponsored Jim Gray
Safer Calgary Awards.
Jim Gray, a long-time community advocate, business leader and a member of
the CN Board of Directors, said: "The CN Safer Alberta Awards are really an
awareness program. The vehicle for that awareness will be children because it
is the youth of the province that we have to impact so effectively, with
respect to safer attitudes and safer practices."
The 10 communities so far designated through Safe Communities Canada -
Calgary, Fort McMurray/Wood Buffalo, Strathcona County, Grande Prairie,
Medicine Hat, High River, Lakeland, Slave Lake, International Region (Leduc
and area) and the Safe Communities Coalition of Central Alberta (including Red
Deer) - will be asked to submit nominations starting next January.

CN and Safe Communities Canada encourage all communities across Canada to
become safe communities.

The following Radio Clips will be available at CNW Broadcast on Demand
from 8:30 am ET June 9, 2007 through July 9, 2007.
