CN donates C$37,500 to Red Cross to support humanitarian relief efforts in flood damaged Monteregie

ST-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, QC, Sept. 27, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - CN (TSX: CNR) (NYSE: CNI) announced today it has made a donation of C$37,500 to the Red Cross in support of the agency's relief efforts in the Monteregie region. This sum represents a combination of funds donated by employees and a corporate match.

Last May, the Richelieu River spilled its banks due to heavy rainfalls, triggering a historic flood that affected homes and croplands along the water body. The flooding damaged close to 3,500 buildings and forced more than a thousand residents to leave their homes.

"The generous donation made by CN and its employees will go a long way towards helping disaster victims," said Michel Léveillé, General Manager of the Red Cross, Quebec Division. "Their journey back to a normal life will be shorter. We are proud to have a partner like CN, which supports Red Cross' disaster response efforts, such as the flooding in the Monteregie, and its catastrophe preparedness programs."

Claude Mongeau, president and chief executive officer of CN, said: "The devastating effects of this flood continue to be felt in numerous communities along the Richelieu River as people are still coping with the aftermath. CN and its employees are proud to support the Red Cross in helping people in need following this disaster."
