Closing of the Valu-Mart Grocery Store in Shawville - The President's Choice

SHAWVILLE, QC, June 1, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - The workers of Shawville's Valu-Mart rejoice that their employer accepted to return to the negotiating table, at the request of Qubec's Ministry of Labour.

« We are quite optimistic regarding this news, declares Karen Cartman, the union's president. We hope that our employer can show an open mind and that we will have a real negotiation ».

The news came as the workers were protesting, along with Shawville citizens and their comrades from other unions affiliated with the CSN, against the closing by Loblaw of the only grocery store in town.

« We really hope we can find some common ground here, says David Bergeron-Cyr, vice president of the CSN's Fédération du commerce. We would not want Shawville's only grocery store to close because Loblaw refuses to negotiate », he states.

Both parties should meet in conciliation next week to restart the negotiation process.
