Closing Day of War Amps Ontario Seminar - Child amputees learn to handle teasing & bullies at War Amps Ottawa seminar

OTTAWA, Oct. 21 /CNW Telbec/ - What do you do when someone makes fun of
your artificial arm or calls you "peg leg" at school?
Child amputees from across Ontario will get the answers today and learn
to deal with other issues of growing up as an amputee on the final day of The
War Amps 2007 Ontario Child Amputee (CHAMP) Seminar in Ottawa. The session,
"Growing Up With CHAMP," will take place at 10:30 a.m. in International
Ballroom A of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 101 Lyon Street, in Ottawa.
This open-forum session is conducted with the help of the Ontario Junior
Counselling team. They will talk to the younger Champs about name-calling,
bullying, teasing and staring, relating how they dealt with these issues
growing up and how to turn them into opportunities to educate others about
amputation.
Earlier today, at 9 AM in the same room, The War Amps new public service
announcement Cody and the Argos will be shown. The Association, in conjunction
with the Canadian Football League, produces a PSA each year to highlight The
War Amps PLAYSAFE message. It airs nationally during CFL telecasts and
throughout the year. Cody Bell, 7, of Ingleside, who lost his left leg in a
lawnmower accident, appears in the PSA. He is attending the Seminar and will
be presented with a highlight DVD from the filming.
CHAMP, founded by War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton, utilizes the Winner's
Circle philosophy to change the lives of child amputees through artificial
limbs, counselling, regional Seminars and programs like Matching Mothers. The
War Amps is funded solely through public support of the Key Tag and Address
Label Service and receives no government grants. For more information, call
