PICKERING, ON, July 24 /CNW/ - The City of Pickering is working quickly
and thoroughly to assess and repair roads flooded by yesterday's heavy rains.
Sideline No. 4 (Balsam Road) remains closed between Highway No. 7 and
5th Concession. The 5th Concession remains closed between Church Street and
Greenwood Road. Works crews are currently on site conducting repairs.
Whitevale Road remains closed between Altona Road and Mill Street.
Repairs have not yet commenced as a damage/repair assessment is still being
Local traffic will be permitted through to provide residents access to
their homes. All other traffic is being rerouted. Motorists are advised to use
Highway No. 7 and/or Taunton Road as alternate routes.
The City of Pickering's Chief Administrative Officer, Thomas Quinn, was
on site yesterday to survey the damage and oversee the City's response. "I am
very pleased with staff's ability to quickly respond to and manage this
unexpected situation," said Thomas Quinn. "Many residents approached me to
express their appreciation of our efforts. We will continue to work diligently
so that we can get these roads reopened at the earliest possible opportunity."
