CIBC raises $7.75 million for United Way in 2007



    Supporting United Way for over 45 years to create stronger and healthier
    communities for families to live, work and raise their children

    TORONTO, Jan. 17 /CNW/ - CIBC (CM: TSX;NYSE) - CIBC employees and
retirees have once again opened their wallets to generously support United Way
of Canada - Centraide Canada and its work towards improving the social
conditions of Canadians. CIBC raised a total of $7.75 million, including a
$2.9 million corporate donation, for United Way in 2007, which equates to an
average donation of more than $435 from each of its contributing employees and
retirees.
    "Whether it is individual employees volunteering at United Way agencies,
or a small group of employees organizing an annual hockey tournament to raise
funds, CIBC and our employees are committed to making a difference in our
communities," said Gerry McCaughey, CIBC's President and Chief Executive
Officer. "We are pleased to work with the United Way to achieve this goal."
    CIBC's largest annual corporate donation goes to United Way, which the
bank, its employees and retirees have supported for over 45 years through
their fundraising efforts and personal donations. Thousands of CIBC employees
dedicate their time to this worthy cause.

    United Way of Canada - Centraide Canada (UWC-CC) is the national
organization for the 122 United Ways - Centraides across Canada. It acts as a
voice for its members within the Canadian voluntary sector and internationally
and provides leadership, programs and services to its members. The national
organization also maintains a close relationship with United Way of America,
United Way International (UWI) and through UWI, with other United Way
organizations around the world.
