CIBC donates $150,000 to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation for equipment that will enhance the accuracy of radiation treatment planning

Greater accuracy means better outcomes for cancer patients

    ST. JOHN'S, Sept. 18 /CNW/ - CIBC (CM: TSX;NYSE) today announced a
$150,000 donation to PRIORITY: The Campaign for Cancer Care, the capital and
endowment campaign for the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation. The
donation will go towards the purchase of a new 4-dimensional CT Simulator that
will enable the cancer care teams at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre to
enhance the accuracy of radiation treatment planning. The 4D Simulator will
allow the treatment teams to deliver higher doses of radiation and will
specifically pinpoint the tumour area, resulting in less harm to healthy
tissue and leading to better outcomes for cancer patients.
"We are very excited to receive this generous gift from CIBC," said Earl
Ludlow, Chair, PRIORITY: The Campaign for Cancer Care, and President and CEO,
Newfoundland Power. "Our priority is enhancing radiation treatment services at
the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre in St. John's - the only facility in the
province where cancer patients can receive radiation treatment - and we are so
pleased to have CIBC join us in achieving this goal."
"CIBC is pleased that our donation is supporting the acquisition of vital
cancer treatment equipment right here in Newfoundland and Labrador," said
Bernie Praught, Associate Vice President of CIBC Retail Markets for
Newfoundland and Labrador. "This campaign is about providing the best
equipment to cancer care teams so that they can deliver the best treatment and
care to patients from the province. We are proud to enhance Bliss Murphy's
ability to provide the latest in cancer treatment technology."
The Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation develops, stewards and
distributes charitable resources to enhance treatment and supportive care
programs for cancer patients, funds local cancer research initiatives and
provides continuing education opportunities for staff of the Dr. H. Bliss
Murphy Cancer Centre and affiliated cancer programs in Newfoundland and
Labrador. PRIORITY: The Campaign for Cancer Care is the Foundation's
$3 million capital and endowment campaign.
