TORONTO, Sept. 12 /CNW/ - The Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA)
honoured individuals and companies who have exhibited outstanding industry
service and leadership in the natural and organic product industry with the
CHFA People of Excellence Awards on September 8th, 2007.
The CHFA's most prestigious award, the Hall of Fame Award, was presented
to Mr. David Chapman, President and Founder of Purity Life Health Products. In
2006, Purity Life was acquired by SunOpta Inc., a Canadian owned healthy
products company. While Chapman has a background in accounting, he had a
passion for natural health and in 1984 established Purity Life, a small
distributor of natural health products in Acton, ON.
Today Purity Life has grown to become Canada's number one supplier and
manufacturer of natural health products, directly servicing health food,
pharmacy and practitioner accounts across the country. Purity Life has over
200 product lines, including some of the industry's most noteworthy brands
including Quest(R), Nature's Harmony(R), Vivitas(R), Herbon(R), Kyolic(R), and
RxBalance(R). The company carries roughly 6,000 SKU's and services over 2,800
customers from both its Eastern (Acton) and Western (Vancouver) distribution
facilities. Purity Life has received a number of industry awards, including
the CHFA Supplier of the Year Award in 2000.
Chapman has been an active contributor to the natural products industry
in Canada so much so that many colleagues would call him a pioneer. Not only
is Chapman the founder of Purity Life, but he is also a founding member of the
Holistic Health Research Foundation of Canada, the first and only national
registered charitable organization dedicated to funding research, public and
health professional awareness in complementary and alternative health care. A
committed member of the CHFA, he has served a number of times on the CHFA
Board of Directors for a total of 19 years. Purity Life has been a major
supporter of CHFA trade shows through sponsorship as well. Finally, Chapman
has been actively involved in lobbying the government for regulatory changes
in the natural health products industry, particularly in the creation of
implementation of the Natural Health Product Regulations.
David Chapman joins other notable CHFA Hall of Fame Award recipients,
such as Siegfried Gursche (1998) founder of alive magazine; Sam Graci (2003)
formulator of Greens+; and Eric Margolis (2004) President of Jamieson
Laboratories, a leading manufacturer of vitamins and herbal supplements.
