Chantal Petitclerc Kicks-off World Federation of Chiropractic International Congress



    MONTREAL, April 28 /CNW Telbec/ - Internationally renowned Para-Olympic
gold medalist Chantal Petitclerc will open the 10th Biennial Congress of the
World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) which kicks-off in Montreal on Thursday
of this week. Montreal's Pro-Mayor, Mr. Michel Bissonnet, will welcome the
conventioneers.
    The international event has drawn some 1,000 chiropractors from around
the world to the three-day educational Congress which features workshops,
seminars and presentations on an extensive range of topics from sports
chiropractic, to the latest in chiropractic research and clinical practice
techniques.
    "This is the first time the WFC Congress has been held in Canada and we
are delighted that Montreal was chosen as the venue," says Dr. Richard Valade,
President of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, the host of the Congress.
    "The Biennial Congress is the leading chiropractic research and learning
event in the world," says Dr. Stathis Papadopoulis, President of the World
Federation of Chiropractic. "The Congress provides an opportunity to share
best practices, disseminate research and collaborate."
    Recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), the practice of
chiropractic consists of the examination, assessment, diagnosis, treatment,
management and prevention of spinal, joint and related neuromusculoskeletal
disorders.

    The Canadian Chiropractic Association represents the professional
interests of Canada's 6,000 chiropractors. Chiropractic is a regulated health
care profession recognized by statute in all Canadian provinces, and is one of
the largest primary health care professions in Canada

    Established in 1988, the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC)
represents the national associations of 88 countries which comprise its voting
members. Its goals include promoting uniform high standards of chiropractic
education, research and practice globally.
