Champlain Bridge Corridor to be Avoided: Continuation of Paving Work this Weekend

LONGUEUIL, QC, Sept. 15, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) wishes to remind motorists of the continuation of paving work on the Champlain Bridge, as well as on Highway 15 over the next several weekends. The combined road obstructions on both the Champlain Bridge and Highway 15 will allow for the maximization of work on a same axis and take place during the same period. However, traffic will be more difficult during this period and motorists are asked to avoid the Champlain Bridge corridor and to opt for the Jacques-Cartier and Victoria Bridges instead.

As of Friday, September 16 at 10 PM to Monday, September 19 at 5 AM, a single Montreal bound lane and two South Shore bound lanes will be open on the Champlain Bridge, whereas on Highway 15, a single lane will be open in each direction between the Atwater and Nuns' Island exits.

Please also note that the work on Highway 15 will require the closure of ramp P3 (entrance for Highway 15 South by Gaétan-Laberge Boulevard in Verdun) and ramp O (entrance for Highway 15 South by exit 4 of the Bonaventure Expressway) during this period.

For all details concerning the setting up of the worksite in the night of Friday to Saturday and the modified work schedule for the next several weekends, we invite you to visit our blog at www.champlainbridge.ca.

WORK ON A SECTION OF THE BONAVENTURE EXPRESSWAY

We also wish to inform motorists of work on the Bonaventure Expressway in the area of Pierre-Dupuy Avenue (exit 2 on the Bonaventure Expressway), in order to pursue the rehabilitation work started in May.

This work will require the complete closure of this section of the Bonaventure Expressway in each direction from Friday, September 16 at 11 PM to Monday, September 19 at 5 AM with a detour via exit 2 of the expressway and then via its service lane. We invite you to view the map (http://bit.ly/bplZzT) showing the various closure scenarios. In this case, the closure that will be taking place is scenario C.

REDUCING THE IMPACT

During these closures, we recommend that motorists use the Jacques Cartier or Victoria Bridges. The Jacques Cartier Bridge will also be able to open three lanes in one direction or the other depending on traffic. However, please note that the Victoria Bridge will keep its usual configuration for next weekends, namely one lane in each direction.

With the partial and temporary closure of half of the Honoré-Mercier Bridge, this repair work will have a considerable impact on traffic over weekends. Mass transit, carpooling and public transport are strongly recommended during this period.
