OTTAWA, Oct. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - Losing part of his left leg in a lawnmower
accident has given seven-year-old Cody Bell of Ingleside, Ontario, a special
interest in spreading The War Amps PLAYSAFE message to other children.
Recently Cody joined Toronto Argonauts stars Arland Bruce III and Byron
Parker to film a new War Amps PLAYSAFE public service announcement called Cody
and the Argos. It will air nationally on CFL telecasts on CBC and TSN starting
Thanksgiving weekend, and will continue on these networks through the playoffs
and Grey Cup. It will also be featured in other programming on national
networks and specialty channels.
For more than 25 years, The War Amps and CFL have shared a special
tradition - the annual CFL PLAYSAFE PSA, saluting the League's support of The
War Amps safety program. The new PSA featuring Cody can be viewed on The War
Amps Web site at www.waramps.ca/playsafe/cfl.php.
Using the Winner's Circle philosophy, The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP)
Program changes the lives of child amputees like Cody by providing funding for
artificial limbs, counselling, seminars and other programs. It also spreads
the PLAYSAFE message through videos, parade floats, presentations and PSAs
like this one.
"Cody is having fun in the PSA, but at the same time he is also spreading
a hard-hitting message that will reach thousands of Canadians," said War Amps
CEO and producer Cliff Chadderton. "The CFL and the Argos, through their
tremendous support of The War Amps and the PLAYSAFE Program, have had an
equally integral role in getting this essential and possibly life-saving
lesson out there," he added.
Like all War Amps productions, Cody and the Argos was funded by corporate
donations. The War Amps receives no government grants. It is funded solely
through public support of the Key Tag and Address Label Service. For more
