Funds used for key pedagogy and course development initiatives
TORONTO, Sept. 11 /CNW/ - The Certified Management Accountants of Ontario
(CMA Ontario) is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Richard Ivey
School of Business, at The University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario.
The strengthened relationship with the Ivey undergraduate (HBA) degree
program will support case writing, a key teaching aspect of the curriculum,
and course development across the program.
On Thursday, September 13, 2007 Merv Hillier, FCMA, CEO of CMA Ontario
will present the first cheque to Carol Stephenson, Dean of the Richard Ivey
School of Business and Darren Meister, Faculty Director, HBA program, Richard
Ivey School of Business. HBA students, the HBA Accounting Club Executive, the
CMA Student Ambassador for the HBA program and accounting faculty including
Murray Bryant, Yaqi Shi, Chris Sturby and Mary Heisz will be on hand for the
presentation. In addition to supporting the partnership between the
organizations and promotion of the CMA program among students, CMA Ontario
funding will ensure course offerings adequately cover the academic topics
required for CMA designation accreditation.
"The strengthened partnership with CMA Ontario will expand the
opportunities available to Ivey students, particularly students interested in
pursuing careers in accounting," said Darren Meister, Faculty Director, HBA
program. Former Ivey HBA student, Brianne Bell agrees, "Certified Management
Accountants of Ontario has been a long-time supporter of Ivey HBA students,
like myself, through the annual scholarship that is awarded to a promising
management accountant. This enhanced relationship between CMA Ontario and Ivey
will create further visibility of this respected designation to a hand-picked
crop of future business leaders that are enrolled in the HBA program. The two
managerial-focused programs are very well aligned and together they will
continue to attract world-class talent." Brianne Bell, HBA, CMA Candidate, is
Controller - Ontario & West Logistics, Labatt Breweries of Canada.
"The professional education of a Certified Management Accountant focuses
on management, strategy and accounting making the designation a perfect fit
with the breadth and professionalism of the Ivey HBA. CMA gives the HBA
student a competitive edge in the marketplace," said Deborah Clarke,
Southwestern Ontario Regional Director, CMA Ontario. "Ivey HBA students
understand the importance of networking in the business world. CMA opens more
doors in industry for new graduates; our professional membership is a gold
mine of contacts for these students."
Ivey HBA graduates, Brianne Bell and Allison Innes, acknowledge increased
recognition and involvement with their senior management teams while in the
CMA Strategic Leadership Program. "My position is devoted mainly to
forecasting and budgeting. Through the review of departmental budgets, running
and analyzing profitability reports and financial statements I assess our
performance, year-over-year and against targets and prepare strategic action
recommendations for senior management. Over the course of the program I have
taken on an increasingly key role in the planning process, moving from an
operational to a managerial level role." Alison Innes, BA, HBA, IMBA, CMA
Candidate, is Financial Analyst, Columbia Sportswear Canada, Inc.
