Competition helps students make informed career choices both 2007 winning
schools from same education board district
TORONTO, June 5 /CNW/ - Certified Management Accountants of Ontario (CMA
Ontario) is excited to announce the results of the first annual "Make !t
Happen" contest: Tilbury District High School and Northern Collegiate in
Sarnia, both of the Lambton Kent District School Board, finished in the top
two positions ahead of 15 other secondary schools in Ontario.
Each winning school will receive a prize of $5,000 to support a special
project proposed by the winning team of students, to improve the quality of
their school life.
Designed with the assistance of teachers, the CMA Ontario "Make !t
Happen" program helps students, their parents, guidance counsellors and
business teachers answer important career choice questions, including the
overriding question on a student's mind, "will I like it?"
The 2007 contest brought to the fore a number of important secondary
school issues, which ranged from infrastructure improvements, to increasing
school resources, to ways to improve school spirit.
Tilbury will use the $5,000 award to support development of its business
studies program, with use of a dedicated classroom, while Northern Collegiate
will improve the school's fitness room and apparatus, with the goal of
encouraging a healthy student lifestyle.
"The CMA Ontario Selection Committee expressed the students who submitted
winning proposals were both thorough and creative in their submission, which
included important elements of management, strategy and accounting for the
project, as per the CMA Ontario guidelines," said Deborah Clarke, Regional
Director of Marketing and Communications, CMA Ontario. "Lambton Kent District
School Board is to be congratulated that both winning proposals are from
students at their schools."
