Celebrating in concert! - The Société du 400e anniversaire de Québec launches operation charm in Toronto

QUEBEC CITY, April 10 /CNW Telbec/ - The Société du 400e anniversaire de
Québec will be heading for Toronto this week, as it accompanies the Orchestre
symphonique de Québec for its concert at Roy Thomson Hall. This partnership
with the OSQ gives the Société the opportunity to conduct a media blitz on
April 11 and 12 to promote the 400th anniversary celebrations in Toronto and
boost tourism for 2008.
A reception with representatives from the media as well as from the
cultural and business communities will follow the concert given by the OSQ in
Roy Thomson Hall. Individual interviews with the Toronto media are also
scheduled in the morning on April 11 and 12, in collaboration with the Bureau
du Québec in Toronto.
According to the President and Director General of the Société du 400e
anniversaire de Québec, Pierre Boulanger, "to celebrate the 400th anniversary
of Quebec City is also to mark the birth of Canada. The cultural, historical
and geographical proximity that we share with Ontario plays a big part in our
efforts to extend a broad welcome to the 2008 festivities. What better
opportunity to invite the population of Toronto, both French- and
English-speaking, to the unique and fabulous celebrations we have planned for
them, and to persuade them to make Quebec City their vacation destination in
2008."
The presence of the Société du 400e anniversaire de Québec in Toronto
represents the first of a series of activities in Ontario. Next May 1 and 2,
the experience will be repeated in Ottawa, when the OSQ gives another concert
at the National Arts Centre of Canada during the "Québec Scene" event.
In addition, the President and Director General of the Société will be
back in Toronto to talk to the French- and English-speaking communities at the
Club Canadien de Toronto on May 16 and at the Canadian Club of Toronto in the
fall.

The Société du 400e anniversaire de Québec is an autonomous, non-profit
organization, financed by the Government of Québec, the City of Québec and the
Government of Canada.
