Celebrate Skilled Trades Week in Canada

Find out how young people can get on the road to success by choosing a
    skilled trade and technology career

    OTTAWA, Oct. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Skills/competences Canada, as part of its
mandate to promote trades and technology, is hosting its third annual Skilled
Trades Week launch in Canada on Monday November 3rd, at a ceremony at Les
Jardins de la Cité, at La Cité Collégiale in Ottawa.
According to a report from the Canadian Tourism Human Resources Council,
Projections for labour demand in the Canadian tourism sector indicate that
labour demand could grow from 1.65 million jobs in 2005 to 2.2 million jobs in
2025, a potential increase of 33 per cent.
Skilled Trades Week is dedicated to not only finding a solution to the
labour shortage, but to offering young people more career choices. Skilled
trades offer young people respect, good pay and opportunity. Too many young
people just don't think a skilled trade can be a part of their fulfilling
future.
"Budding young minds need to see careers in trades and technology as more
enticing", says Shaun Thorson, Executive Director, Skills/Compétences Canada.
"This coming week we celebrate these occupations and demonstrate through
programs of exploration in these skills that they are no longer second choice
careers, but certainly valued and needed in Canada's fabric, not to mention
the global arena."
If you would like to write a story on the Skilled Trades and Technology
