    Canadians are Encouraged to Donate Their Hair to Make Real-Hair Wigs for
    women Battling Cancer
    

    TORONTO, May 4 /CNW/ - Mother's Day is about celebrating the unwavering
love and devotion that mothers have for their families. This Mother's Day,
Pantene Pro-V and the Canadian Cancer Society are encouraging Canadians to
consider alternative ways of expressing their love and appreciation for their
mothers and grandmothers. What is the ultimate act of love for a woman
battling cancer?
    As part of the second year of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths(TM) program,
Pantene Pro-V and the Canadian Cancer Society are urging Canadians to express
the love in their hearts with a cut and donation of their hair to be made into
real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.
Last year's launch was such a success that a total of 11,500 ponytails were
donated for this program. This year, we hope to inspire Canadians to continue
donating and express much-needed Acts of Love.

a second year and to inspire Canadians to help women battling cancer reclaim
some of their dignity, confidence and sense of self," remarked Stella Zhou,
Pantene Pro-V Brand Manager. "This year, we're calling on Canadians to donate
their hair and express much-needed acts of love on Mother's Day and throughout
the rest of the year."
    Hair loss can strike an especially crippling blow to women. A woman's
hair defines her self-image in a way that almost no other physical attribute
can. In fact, a study revealed that 58 per cent of women consider hair loss to
be the worst side effect when undergoing chemotherapy. Some women are at risk
of avoiding potentially life-saving treatment altogether because of their hair
loss fear(*).
    Eight year-old Julia of Toronto, Ontario is one of the newest donors who
has committed to cutting eight inches of her beautiful blonde hair as a
Mother's Day tribute to her Grandma. "My act of love is for my grandma Julia,
who I'm named after," commented Julia. "Grandma Julia passed away from breast
cancer and I want to honour her by donating my hair to help people with cancer
feel stronger."
    For the second year in a row, Pantene Pro-V has demonstrated its passion
for women's hair and women's health with another donation of $100,000 to the
Canadian Cancer Society. A portion of proceeds of the sale of the Pantene
Pro-V Beautiful Lengths collection also goes towards supporting the Pantene
Beautiful Lengths program.
    The Beautiful Lengths website includes essential information on donation
requirements and a downloadable donation kit. Monetary donations to the
campaign can also be submitted online if people wish to be involved but don't
