CBC'S Hockey Night in Canada continues its 56-year tradition with wall-to-wall coverage of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs



    
    CBC is home to four exciting Round One match-ups: Boston/Montreal;
    Vancouver/St. Louis; Pittsburgh/Philadelphia; and San Jose/Anaheim
    

    TORONTO, April 13 /CNW/ - The tradition continues! Beginning Wednesday,
April 15, CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA - the country's only home to the
Stanley Cup for 56 years - brings Canadians the best match-ups, the biggest
names and brightest stars of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs, including
exclusive Canadian coverage of the Stanley Cup Final. CBC's Round One coverage
includes Montreal against Boston in the highly anticipated 32nd playoff
re-match between the Original Six rivals; the Northwest Division Champion
Vancouver Canucks facing St. Louis; Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in the battle
of Pennsylvania; and a high-flying western showdown between San Jose and
Anaheim.
    The first puck drops on the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Wednesday, April
15 at 7 p.m. ET with Philadelphia at Pittsburgh followed by St. Louis at
Vancouver at 10 p.m. ET. On Thursday, April 16, the Boston/Montreal series
kicks off in Beantown at 7 p.m. ET followed by Anaheim at San Jose at 10:30

    CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA gives Canadians a complete preview of the
2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Tuesday, April 14 at 8 p.m. local with CBC's
Hockey Night in Canada: Stanley Cup Countdown, in front of a live studio
audience. Host Ron MacLean will be joined by other Hockey Night in Canada
personalities to set the stage for the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a
one-hour special breaking down all eight playoff series with detailed analysis
of the sixteen teams competing in the NHL post-season.
    Each night during Round One, MacLean will host the 2009 Stanley Cup
Playoffs along with Don Cherry, Kelly Hrudey, Mike Milbury and P.J. Stock.
Cherry will cover the Boston/Montreal series while Hrudey, Milbury and Stock
will join MacLean in-studio throughout Round One to provide insight and
analysis of all the first round action.
    On April 15, CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA kicks off its 2009 Stanley Cup
Playoff schedule with a must-see doubleheader. The action gets underway at 7
p.m. ET when Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins face off against Jeff
Carter and the Philadelphia Flyers at Mellon Arena. Dean Brown will call the
series alongside analyst Garry Galley and Greg Millen with reporter Cassie
Campbell. In the nightcap of the twin bill, CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA will
go rinkside at GM Place in Vancouver at 10 p.m. ET as goaltender Roberto
Luongo and the Canucks kick off their series against counterpart Chris Mason
and the St. Louis Blues. Scott Oake will report from this Western Conference
Quarterfinal best-of-seven showdown alongside play-by-play commentator Jim
Hughson and analyst Craig Simpson.
    CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA continues the post-season momentum on
Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. ET as Saku Koivu and the Montreal Canadiens face
off against Zdeno Chara and the Boston Bruins at the TD Banknorth Garden.
Reporter Elliotte Friedman, play-by-play commentator Bob Cole and analyst Greg
Millen will follow this Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series. The action
continues at 10:30 p.m. ET when Joe Thornton and the San Jose Sharks, winners
of the Presidents' Trophy take on inter-state rival, Ryan Getzlaf and the
Anaheim Ducks. Mark Lee will handle play-by-play duties with analyst, Marc
Crawford.
    CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA goes live and interactive with the launch of
Stanley Cup I-Desk on CBCSports.ca beginning Wednesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. ET.
Hall of Fame journalist, Scott Morrison and HNIC Sirius Satellite Radio host,
Jeff Marek will host live chats with hockey fans across the country during all
2009 Stanley Cup Playoff games broadcast on CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA. In
addition to extensive coverage on CBCSports.ca, Hrudey, Oake, Freidman,
Campbell and Marek will provide members of the on-line community with live
insider posts on Twitter and blogs throughout the playoffs.
    Hockey Night in Canada Radio on SIRIUS will also offer comprehensive
coverage of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs on SIRIUS Satellite Radio's Channel
122 airing Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. ET (encore presentation from
7-10 p.m. ET). Host Jeff Marek will be joined by CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA
personalities and other guests throughout the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
