CBC union awaits parliamentary report on broadcaster's mandate



    TORONTO, Feb. 28 /CNW/ - The Canadian Media Guild, which represents
5,500 employees at CBC/Radio-Canada, is awaiting the federal
Heritage Committee's report on the mandate of the public broadcaster, which is
to be released late this morning in Ottawa.
    The CMG urged the committee to recommend a ten-year mandate for
CBC/Radio-Canada covering broad programming expectations, an increase to the
parliamentary appropriation indexed to inflation during the ten-year mandate,
and improved governance to ensure public accountability and independence from
government.
