CAW Urges New Minister in Charge of OLG To Meet Regarding Casino Labour Dispute

TORONTO, June 24 /CNW/ - The CAW is asking George Smitherman, Ontario's
new Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, to meet with the union and to
intervene in the labour dispute involving 900 casino, slot and security
employees at Woodbine, Sudbury and Brantford.
Hemi Mitic, assistant to CAW President Buzz Hargrove, said in a letter to
Smitherman, who is responsible for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation,
that the OLG continues to demand major concessions to the agreement that
expired May 31.
Mitic said he's requesting the meeting with Smitherman in the hope of
trying to find a road map to a settlement. On June 12 the CAW had originally
requested a meeting with David Caplan, the previous minister responsible for
the crown corporation.
