CAW President to Comment on Landmark TTC Transit Contract Following Vote Today

TORONTO, April 27 /CNW/ - CAW President Ken Lewenza will address the
media immediately following the Toronto Transit Commission's vote on the
landmark $1.2 billion Low Floor Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) contract that is
being held today at City Hall in downtown Toronto - one of the largest
municipal transit contracts ever awarded in North America.

CAW President comments on TTC decision

When: Immediately following the TTC vote (approximately
            2:30 - 3:00 p.m.)
Where: Toronto City Hall, outside Committee Room (second floor)
            100 Queen Street West
            Toronto, Ontario

TTC staff recommended the LRV contract be awarded to Canadian-based
manufacturer Bombardier on April 24, a move that will likely result in final
assembly work of the new vehicles at the company's rail car facility in
Thunder Bay, Ontario - a major boost to a community hard hit by manufacturing
and forestry job losses.
Lewenza will be joined by CAW Local 1075 President Paul Pugh
(representing Bombardier workers at the Thunder Bay rail car facility) and
Toronto and York District Labour Council President John Cartwright.
For media unable to attend, interviews will be made available upon
request.
