VANCOUVER, April 29 /CNW/ - Capstone Mining Corporation (CS: TSX) today
announced assay results for 21 new exploration drill holes completed in areas
south of the Minto open pit at its high grade Minto copper-gold mine in the
Yukon. Included in these results are data for all the remaining 15 holes from
the Ridgetop deposit infill drilling, five holes at Area 118 and one
exploration hole. The Ridgetop area continues to surprise to the upside,
returning high copper grades and a high grade gold intercept in an area not
previously known for high gold grades. Highlights of results from these 21
holes are summarized below, while complete results are attached.

"The latest results continue to show that exploration at the Minto Mine
can surprise to the upside," said Stephen Quin, President & COO of Capstone
Mining. "Drill results from the Ridgetop deposit have yielded some excellent
copper grades but also some unusually high gold grades. We plan to resume
drilling for a significantly expanded 2009 program following the spring melt
and, in the meantime, are awaiting the remaining results from the drilling
completed to date".

    Drill Program

In addition to the 15 Ridgetop holes released herein, there is also data
for five holes from the north perimeter of Area 118 and one hole from a
piezometer hole completed north of the current open pit. The Area 118 holes
were drilled to test exploration potential north of the previous drill limits.
They show two trends of interest, firstly there is a continuation of the
shallow, moderate grade mineralization north of the last resource drilling
and, second, there are some thick intervals of moderate copper-gold grades at
depth (approx -300m). While neither of these presents targets that appear
economic today, the mineralization is open to the north and grades do change
along these horizons, leaving a future, albeit lower priority, target to be
pursued in the future. The Piezometer hole is one of two holes drilled to
install piezometer instrumentation to monitor groundwater flows near the open
pit. It was logged and sampled as a matter of course.

    Expanded Program

The initial 2009 drill program is now complete with 14,966m of drilling
in 86 holes, 3,500m more drilling than originally planned as a result of the
encouraging results from the discovery at Minto North. A second phase of
drilling will start after spring breakup and includes an additional 9,000m of
drilling to infill and further test the limits of the 2009 discovery at Minto
North, as well as to test several other prospective magnetic targets near
Minto North. The total of 24,000m of drilling represents a significantly
expanded exploration program over the initial 2009 plan.
The objective of the expanded program is twofold: (1) to support a
National Instrument 43-101 mineral resource estimation for Minto North before
year-end and (2) to explore for new deposits in the area of the Minto North
discovery. Previous exploration has been focused south of the "DEF" fault,
which cuts off the mineralization in the main Minto pit, but the discovery of
high grade, bornite-rich copper-gold mineralization at shallow depths at Minto
North opens up significant areas of the Minto Mine property, north of the DEF
fault, that have seen little exploration, and most of that was completed in
the 1970s.

    Quality Assurance

The technical information in this news release has been prepared in
accordance with Canadian regulatory requirements set out in National
Instrument 43-101 and reviewed by Stephen P. Quin, P. Geo., President & COO
for Capstone Mining Corporation. The exploration activities at the Minto
project site are carried out under the supervision of Brad Mercer, P. Geo.,
V.P. Exploration (Canada) for Capstone.
The analytical method for the copper and silver analyses is aqua regia
digestion of the samples followed by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Gold is
analysed by fire assay fusion with atomic absorption spectroscopy finish for
gold. Analyses are carried out by ALS Chemex in North Vancouver. When visible
gold is noted in drill core samples or regular fire assay values appear
abnormally high, the pulp and screen metallic assay method is used to
determine the total gold content and gold contents of different size
fractions. This is considered industry best practice when dealing with coarse
gold mineralization where a nugget effect is suspected. This determination is
accepted as the most representative value and is used in the assay database
for resource calculations. Blank and standard samples are used for quality
assurance and quality control. Where more than two check samples assay outside
expected ranges, the entire batch is re-assayed. After the completion of
planned drill programs at Minto, random check assays will be carried out by
Acme Analytical of Vancouver.
