MediaWorks Inc., commented today on the CRTC's decision to allow CanWest to
add transmitters for its Red Deer signal in Calgary and Edmonton.
"We are pleased that the CRTC has approved our application to expand our
coverage of CHCA Red Deer (soon to become part of the new E! network) in
Calgary and Edmonton enabling us to maintain the station's long heritage of
service to Central Alberta," said Ms. Dore. "By making the Red Deer signal
available off-air in these markets, consumers who do not subscribe to cable or
satellite will have another Canadian programming viewing option. It will also
ensure carriage of CHCA Red Deer as a priority signal on cable systems in
Calgary and Edmonton, providing guaranteed access to our Canadian priority and
news programming, as well as our prime-time programming mix."
The Commission's approval enables CHCA Red Deer to receive simulcast
broadcasts in both Calgary and Edmonton.
"This decision represents another important step in our plans to expand
and rebrand the CH network as E! in September 2007," added Ms. Dore. "In an
increasingly challenging marketplace for small-market television, the
opportunity to extend our brand into two of Canada's most vibrant television
