Canadians support Tel Aviv gay centre

TORONTO, Aug. 8 /CNW/ - Canadians are invited to show support for the gay
youth centre in Tel Aviv, Israel, which was the site of a tragic attack
Saturday, August 1.
Nir Katz, 26, and Liz Tarboushi, 17, were killed. Eleven others were
wounded, four critically.
"Canadians of all backgrounds were deeply saddened and pained by this
violent attack," says Samantha Banks, president of the Canadian Federation of
Jewish Students. "Canadians want to help and so we've created a way to support
the crucial work of the centre."
"Israel is a pluralist democracy with legal protections for gays and
lesbians," says Jonathan Lerner, president of the University of BC chapter of
Alpha Epsilon Pi, a traditionally Jewish fraternity. "We hope that, from this
dark moment, awareness and empathy for sexual diversity will increase in
Israel and around the world."
Tax deductible donations can be made online at
www.canadahelps.org/gp/4970.

The campaign to support the Tel Aviv gay youth centre is a project of
Vancouver Hillel.
