CANADIANS HELP HALLMARK MAKE CHILDREN'S WISHES COME TRUE

Hallmark Facebook Community bands together to help support World Wish Day®

TORONTO, May 2 /CNW/ - Hallmark Canada recently rallied Canadians to help turn wishes into reality by encouraging 20,000 Canadians to "like" their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/hallmarkcanada) by April 29th.  The goal of the campaign was to raise awareness and celebrate World Wish Day® on April 29th.  Grateful for the online support, Hallmark Canada has proudly donated $10,000 to Make-A-Wish® Canada, the organization that helps grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

"These kids are so incredibly brave in the struggles they face.  Together we can help bring a little joy into their lives, literally with the click of a mouse," says Chris Kelly, Vice President Consumer Solutions & Brand Experience, Hallmark Canada.  "This is the second year Hallmark has supported Make-A-Wish® Canada and there will be many more ways Canadians can get involved and help build awareness for this incredible organization."

Eight year-old Isabelle had Hodgkin's Disease, and she dreamed of having a blue piano to play and practice on.  April was battling a brain tumour, and wished she could one day meet Dora The Explorer.  These are just a few of the kinds of dreams that Hallmark Canada has helped Make-A-Wish® Canada come true for children suffering from serious illness.

The Facebook campaign is just one of Hallmark Canada's 2011 fundraising efforts for this worthy cause.  Along with the Facebook challenge, when Hallmark customers buy an item from the Disney gifting collection at any Gold Crown store until June 30, Hallmark will donate one dollar from each purchase to Make-A-Wish® Canada.  In 2010, through various initiatives, Hallmark Canada raised $75,000 and was able to grant eight wishes to Canadian children.

World Wish Day® is celebrated around the world each year on April 29th. This date has great significance to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® as it marks the very first wish that was ever granted to Chris Griecius, a seven-year-old boy with leukemia, whose dream was to become a police officer.
