VANCOUVER, Oct. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Wind Energy Association
(CanWEA) today concluded in Vancouver its biggest and best Annual Conference
and Trade Show in the association's history with record attendance and a bold,
new vision for the future of wind energy in Canada.
Last year's record-setting attendance of more than 1,500 delegates and
160 exhibitors was substantially surpassed this year with 2,000 delegates and
more than 200 exhibitors. The industry is now better positioned to realize
CanWEA's new Wind Vision of having wind energy satisfy 20 per cent of Canada's
electricity needs by 2025.
"We're seeing a groundswell of support for wind energy," said Robert
Hornung, president of CanWEA. "The level of interest from wind-energy
organizations is at a record peak and launching our Wind Vision is a huge
step. We now need governments to step up and help streamline the approval
process to help make our vision a reality."
The Conference wrapped up by looking ahead, with three simultaneous
discussion tracks focused on How Best To Secure Canada's Future Wind Energy.
CanWEA's 2009 Annual Conference and Trade Show will be held in Toronto,
Ont. from Sept. 20 - 23.
CanWEA is the voice of the wind power industry in Canada. It works on
behalf of its 400 members to facilitate and promote the responsible and
sustainable growth of wind energy across the country. Wind energy is an
important component of Canada's energy future, bringing new investment and
employment while decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
