OTTAWA, Feb. 21 /CNW/ - The Canadian Television Fund (CTF) today issued a
statement in response to the announcement made yesterday by the Honourable
Josee Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, during the CFTPA conference in
"The Department of Canadian Heritage is a major contributor to the CTF,
and Minister Verner's announcement ensures that any changes to the CTF will
reflect the objectives of all of the Fund's financial contributors," said
Valerie Creighton, President of the CTF. "The CRTC's Public Hearing process
was a healthy exercise and an opportunity to ensure industry perspectives were
heard. We look forward to the CRTC's recommendations, to continued discussions
with the Department of Canadian Heritage, and to collaborating with all of our
funders to ensure the continued success of the CTF."
In its closing remarks at the recent Public Hearings into the future of
the Fund, the CTF stated that the current funding system best meets the needs
of Canada's television production industry and reiterated its continued
commitment to meaningful change.
