Committed to encouraging Financial Services industry to reduce footprint
TORONTO, Nov. 7 /CNW/ - The Canadian Investment Awards, Canada's premier
awards program, recognizing excellence in the financial services industry,
announced today that it is committed to reducing its footprint as it supports
green initiatives. This year's 'Green' Gala, to be held on November 29th, will
have zero carbon impact; Bullfrog Power will inject carbon-free green power
onto the Ontario grid to match the amount of electricity used by this event.
"We are committed to making a difference in leveraging renewable
resources and reducing our event footprint with several initiatives," said
Sabine Steinbrecher, founder of the Canadian Investment Awards. "As a
Bullfrog-powered event, all of the electricity injected on our behalf will be
sourced exclusively from wind and low-impact water power producers who meet or
exceed the federal government's EcoLogo(M) standard for renewable energy. In
addition, we are holding the Gala at the Direct Energy Centre - winner of the
"2006 Public Assembly Facility of the Year" award and a leader in adopting
programs for energy production and waste reduction. Low impact and high style
food and beverage will be served at the Gala. The awards process is virtually
paperless and submissions are online with more initiatives planned over next
few years to further minimize our footprint."
More importantly, the Canadian Investment Awards will launch a new award
to reward financial services institutions that are committed to reducing their
individual footprints. This award, to be announced formally at this year's
Gala, will recognize a leading organization who best accomplishes their
personal green initiatives. The winning organization must include a
significant "green" component to their overall corporate strategy.
"By adding this new award, we're hoping to encourage and award excellence
in a new and critical way," said Steinbrecher, "This event is about
recognizing long-term investing and I can't imagine a more important or
relevant long-term investment than our environment."
Final criteria, partners and jury are evolving. More information about
