Second annual cat film festival welcomes the Canadian meow-sician to the red carpet
TORONTO, April 7, 2015 /CNW/ - For the second year in a row, with the support of Temptations®, the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS) is getting ready to celebrate the love of cats at the Just For Cats Festival, co-presented by TIFF and hosted at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
On April 17, Canadians are invited to join this year's special guest, and multiple JUNO Award-winning and Grammy®-nominated artist, deadmau5, as well as Tempty, the beloved cat photo bomber and his giant cat toys, for a special hour-long presentation of the best cat videos from the internet over the past year. The festival will feature many on-site experiences including photo opportunities, sampling, and plenty of adoptable cats from the Toronto Humane Society.
deadmau5 is the owner of two cats adopted from the Toronto Humane Society, Miss Nyancat and Professor Meowingtons Phd. Professor Meowingtons Phd is featured on the cover of multiple deadmau5 albums including "5 years of mau5", ">album title goes here<" and "Meowingtons Hax Tour Trax". Because of his dedication to his cats and the Toronto Humane Society, deadmau5 will be walking the red carpet at the Just For Cats Festival.
"The Just For Cats Festival is an anticipated annual event for our organization, because it blends together fun and the importance of adoption," said the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies Chief Executive Officer, Barb Cartwright. "This festival is a celebration of cats and all things feline which is why we're thrilled to have cat lover deadmau5 onsite. We hope the festival will inspire visitors to welcome a cat into their lives, and adopt."
The Just For Cats Festival is the only series of national festivals exclusively dedicated to celebrating cats and improving their well-being. The Festival highlights the human-cat bond and highlights the joys of providing a forever home to an adoptable cat. The Festival will occur in Ottawa (June 13), Waterloo (June 18), Fredericton (June 19), and Saskatoon (June 21). More dates will soon be announced nationwide, including in Halifax, Montreal, Vancouver and Edmonton. Part of the proceeds from the event will go towards improving cat welfare by supporting animal shelters throughout Canada.
Nationwide, cats are less likely than dogs to receive veterinary care, to have permanent identification or to be reunited with their owner or adopted to a new family if lost or abandoned. Additionally, shelters in Canada are dangerously over capacity, leading to cats being more likely to be euthanized due to long stays and illness.
"The Just For Cats Festival is a great way for cat lovers to give back to their community," said Christine Cruz-Clarke, senior brand manager of TEMPTATIONS® at Mars Canada Inc. "We are always looking for ways to encourage people to have genuine fun with cats, and this event, hosted from coast to coast, is a great way to do that! We're proud to be a part of it. "
The Just For Cats Festival in Toronto will be at TIFF Bell Lightbox on Friday, April 17 with showings at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.
